The Garage48 Wood Makeathon was held in Tallinn, Estonia, from October 27 to 29, 2023. The 48-hour hackathon challenged participants to develop innovative solutions using wood as the primary material. Two teams emerged as winners: Landscapes and Kobar.



Team Landscapes took home the prize for the “Best Use of Thermory Wood” category. Their project, “Modular Planter Walls,” utilized Thermory wood to create sustainable and aesthetically pleasing vertical gardens. These modular planters can be easily assembled and customized to fit any space, making them ideal for both indoor and outdoor use.



Team Kobar was declared the overall winner of the Garage48 Wood Makeathon. Their project, “369 Pattern Building System,” focused on developing new modules for modular building systems. These innovative modules create unique spatial qualities and expand the possibilities for modular construction. The 369 Pattern Building System has the potential to revolutionize the way we design and build structures.



Both Landscapes and Kobar impressed the judges with their creativity, ingenuity, and ability to push the boundaries of what’s possible with wood. Their projects not only showcase the versatility and sustainability of wood as a building material but also offer practical solutions for a variety of challenges.


The Garage48 Wood Makeathon was a resounding success, and the winning projects are sure to inspire further innovation in the wood construction industry.
